Optical Line Protection Equipment, abbreviated as OLP, is a crucial device used to protect optical fiber communication lines. Its core function is to monitor the status of the primary optical fiber line in real time. When the primary optical fiber experiences an interruption or deteriorates in performance (such as increased loss), it automatically or manually switches the service signal to the backup optical fiber line, thereby ensuring the continuity and reliability of communication and achieving the "self-healing" capability of the communication network.
In simple terms, OLP is like equipping your core communication optical cable with a "backup tire" and an "automatic switching system". When the main road (the primary optical fiber) becomes impassable due to an accident (disconnection) or congestion (significantly increased loss), the system can instantly redirect the vehicles (optical signals) to the backup road (backup optical fiber), ensuring that the service does not cease.
